If you wish to domesticate your pet rodent or rabbit, you will have talk to it several times a day. Make sure that your hands are clean in order for the animal not to be scared of strong smells or mistake the smell for a pray.

When the pet is going to become familiar with your scent, only put your hand into the cage as a start. Do not make any sudden moves or noises as it may scare the pet. Do not lift the pet rodent by its forelegs, but hold your hand beneath its stomach in order to lift the whole pet at once.

Wood chips and hay

Some rodents prefer a thick layer of wood chips or hay for making nests or hides, and others prefer a ready made hide.

Most rodents and rabbits need hard items to chew as their teeth constantly grow, and it is necessary to keep them short.

Most small rodents need a different material than wood chips, e.g. hay, which they use as nest material. A simple item as an empty toilet roll can work very well as a toy which the pet can run through.
