Feeding

A well-fed dog should be well proportioned with visible waist and ribs. If you choose a well-balanced and adjusted dog food, the dog will not need any further nutritional supplements. Please remember that the nutritional need of the dog depends on the dogs age, lifestyle, acitivity level and breed.

The dogs appetite can vary

The daily food amount for adult dogs varies due to breed, activity level and lifestyle. The dog should be fed 1-3 times a day, preferably at the same time every day, and remember that dogs should always have an access to fresh water. As for humans, dogs’ appetite can vary from day to day. If the problem turns chronical, and the dog shows signs of sickness, malaise or weight loss, contact your veterinarian.

Be careful with weight problems

Dogs with weight problems, that is, older dogs and less active dogs should be monitored carefully to avoid weight gain. The dog’s weight can usually be regulated by choosing low fat snacks and chews and avoid high energy dog food. Dogs who are overweight by more than 30% their normal weight should be taken to the veterinarian, because overweight can lead to lifestyle diseases and the dog feeling less comfortable.
